Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that about 51 kilometres of the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway corridor have been cleared as work advances on the major infrastructure project.
The Ghana Armed Forces is currently leading the initial phase of the project under the direction of President John Dramani Mahama.
In a Facebook post on May 28, 2026, Dr. Forson commended the military for what he described as its “phenomenal work” on the transformational road project.
He noted that the cleared section represents significant progress in the development of the expressway, which is expected to become a key economic corridor between Accra and Kumasi.
The Finance Minister further disclosed that compensation payments to affected residents will begin in June, following the completion of assessments by relevant state agencies.
He described the project as one of Ghana’s most strategic infrastructure developments, aimed at improving transport connectivity, easing congestion, and boosting economic activity between the country’s two largest cities.
Dr. Forson added that the steady progress reflects deliberate planning and professionalism, expressing confidence in the project’s long-term impact on national development.
