Ghana and South Korea have signed a landmark Visa Waiver Agreement that will allow holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports from both countries to travel without visas.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun.

Announcing the development in a social media post, Ablakwa described the agreement as a significant milestone in Ghana–South Korea relations, noting that it represents the first visa waiver arrangement between the two nations in nearly five decades of diplomatic engagement.

He revealed that discussions are ongoing to expand the visa-free arrangement to holders of Ordinary Passports, a move expected to boost travel, tourism, trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Under the new agreement, Diplomatic and Service Passport holders from Ghana and South Korea will be able to travel between both countries without obtaining visas, a development aimed at easing official travel, strengthening diplomatic cooperation and deepening bilateral ties.
