National Teams Ambassador Asamoah Gyan visited the Black Queens during their training session on Wednesday evening, June 3, to offer motivation as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Ghanaian women’s national team is currently camping in Accra for the June international window. The camp follows the team’s decision to pull out of a planned three-nation tournament in Tanzania.
Gyan stopped by the team’s second training session of the day to deliver an inspirational message ahead of the upcoming tournament in Morocco.
“As an ambassador for the national team, this is my job. I’ve always been very supportive of the national teams. I remember in 2014 and 2015, I told the Black Queens that if they won a tournament, I had something for them; it was about motivation,” he said.
“So for me, this role is natural. I’m here just to say hello and let them know that we, as Ghanaians, have not neglected them. We are very supportive. They should go there and make Ghana proud.”
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16. The side, managed by head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, aims to build upon their previous performance in the 2024 edition. The tournament in Morocco will also double as the qualification pathway for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Brazil.
