The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a notice circulating on social media claiming that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) school selection exercise began on June 15.

In a statement issued on June 14, GES clarified that it has not announced the commencement of the school selection process and advised candidates, parents, guardians, teachers, and the public to ignore the misleading information.

According to the Service, the fake notice wrongly stated that BECE candidates were required to choose and submit five preferred schools ahead of the placement process. It also falsely claimed there was no deadline for submissions and directed users to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp contact.

GES emphasized that the publication did not originate from the Service and should not be treated as authentic. The Service noted that all updates regarding school selection and placement will be communicated through its official channels and authorized platforms.

The education authority further warned parents and candidates against sharing personal information or interacting with individuals behind the fraudulent announcement, cautioning that such misinformation could expose the public to scams and other forms of exploitation.

GES urged all stakeholders to verify education-related information before taking action and to rely solely on official government and education sector communication channels for accurate updates.
