The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic drugs and drug-infused products during a supervised disposal exercise at Bondase, reaffirming its commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The destroyed substances were confiscated during various anti-narcotics operations conducted between July 2011 and May 2026. The exercise was led by Maxwell Obuba Mantey, alongside senior officials from NACOC and representatives from the Ghana Standards Authority and other state institutions.
NACOC stated that the destruction was carried out after obtaining the necessary court-issued certificates authorising the disposal of the seized substances. Officials from the Ghana Standards Authority monitored the exercise to ensure transparency and verify that all confiscated items were properly destroyed.
Speaking after the exercise, Brigadier General Mantey issued a strong warning to individuals and criminal networks involved in drug trafficking, urging them to abandon their activities or face legal consequences.
The items destroyed included 9.6 tonnes of cannabis, 46.89 kilograms of cocaine, 2,734 bottles of cannabis-infused beverages, 130 boxes of hemp-related products, cannabis-infused shampoos, alcoholic drinks mixed with cannabis, and several other cannabis-based products.
According to NACOC, the destroyed narcotics represented thousands of potential doses that could have contributed to substance abuse, endangered lives, and strengthened illegal drug networks. The Commission said the exercise underscores its determination to prevent seized drugs from re-entering circulation and to protect public health and national security through continued collaboration with regulatory and law enforcement agencies.
