The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) continues to attract thousands of applicants each year as young Ghanaians seek careers in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Recruitment into the military is highly competitive and requires candidates to satisfy a range of academic, medical, physical, and character requirements before they are considered for enlistment.

To qualify for recruitment, applicants must be Ghanaian citizens by birth, possess the required educational qualifications for the category being applied for, and be medically fit to undertake military training. Candidates are also expected to demonstrate good character and meet the prescribed age requirements outlined in each recruitment advertisement.

One of the key requirements is meeting the minimum height standard. Male applicants are generally required to be at least 1.68 metres (5 feet 6 inches) tall, while female applicants must be at least 1.60 metres (5 feet 3 inches). Certain specialist units may prescribe higher height requirements depending on operational needs.

Physical fitness also plays a crucial role in the selection process. Applicants undergo comprehensive medical examinations and physical assessments to determine their suitability for military service. These assessments evaluate overall health, physical endurance, body measurements, and the ability to withstand the demands of military training. Candidates who fail to meet the required medical or physical standards are not selected.

The recruitment process typically begins with an official announcement from the Ghana Armed Forces, followed by an online application through the designated recruitment portal. Shortlisted applicants are invited for document verification, physical screening, medical examinations, aptitude tests where applicable, and background investigations before the final list of successful candidates is announced for military training.

The Ghana Armed Forces has repeatedly cautioned prospective applicants against paying money to individuals promising recruitment assistance. Authorities maintain that enlistment is conducted solely through official channels and that selection is based on merit, qualification, and successful completion of every stage of the recruitment process. Prospective applicants are therefore encouraged to prepare adequately, maintain good physical fitness, and rely only on official recruitment announcements when applying to serve in the Armed Forces.
