Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results are expected to be released on or before July 31, paving the way for the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to begin.
Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series on Monday, July 20, the Minister said the release of the results remains the responsibility of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), stressing that the government will not interfere with the work of the examination body. He noted that the expected timeline was communicated by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Mr. Iddrisu acknowledged ongoing challenges with senior high school placements, citing limited infrastructure and growing enrolment under the Free SHS policy. He said the government is investing in expanding educational infrastructure through initiatives such as the STAR-J project and appealed for patience as efforts continue to improve the system.
The Minister also revealed that a review committee has been established to reform the CSSPS, with the aim of ensuring placements are transparent, merit-based, and free from political influence or favouritism.
As part of the proposed reforms, BECE candidates will select their preferred senior high schools only after their examination results are released, enabling students and parents to make informed choices based on actual academic performance.
