Thirteen people have died and five others are critically injured following a road traffic accident involving a Ford Transit and a Toyota Hiace on the Sege-Tema highway in the Greater Accra Region.
The crash occurred on Wednesday, September 2, as the two vehicles were reportedly travelling towards Ada. Officers from the Sege Fire Station responded to the incident after it was reported.
According to Assistant Divisional Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alex King Nartey, a total of 18 casualties were recorded. The five survivors are receiving critical medical attention at the Sege Polyclinic.
The exact circumstances and cause of the collision remain unknown.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns about road safety, with motorists urged to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and exercise caution when using busy highways.
