President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the governing board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) with immediate effect.
The directive, issued on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, confirmed that the affected board, alongside eight other state boards, will be reconstituted in due course.
The dissolved NSA board, chaired by Dr. Fred Awaah, had been sworn into office in December 2025.
Its membership comprised NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah; Fuseini Bawa (National Sports College); Samuel Duku Sarfo (Ministry of Sports and Recreation); Nana Adwoa Owusu-Amoh (Ministry of Finance); Is-Haku Al-Hassan (Ministry of Education); and Col. Richard Kofi Akoto (Security Services Sports Association).
Other members included Dr. Luguterah Austin Wontepaga (tertiary institutions); Samson Deen (National Paralympic Committee); Richard Kofi Akpokavie (Ghana Olympic Committee); Hajia Sulemana Zenabu and Alhaji Iddris Muntawakilu Ahmed (distinguished sporting personalities); Prof. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong and Theresa Osahene (sports development representatives); and Hamilton Kweku Nixon as an additional member.
The dissolution comes amid ongoing public concern over the poor state of major sporting infrastructure, including the Accra and Baba Yara sports stadiums, which currently fail to meet standards for high-profile fixtures.
The development precedes a vital home tie for the Black Stars, who are scheduled to host The Gambia in their second Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group match later this month.
