Popular Ghanaian content creator and YouTuber Wode Maya has come to the defence of President John Dramani Mahama following social media reactions in Zambia describing the President’s traditional attire as a “blouse” during his official visit to the country.

President Mahama is in Zambia on a three-day State visit from February 4 to 6, 2026, at the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema, to strengthen bilateral relations and explore cooperation in areas such as trade and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

After images of the Ghanaian leader wearing a traditional smock, locally known as fugu or batakari, circulated online, some Zambian netizens mocked the outfit and suggested it resembled women’s clothing.

Reacting to the comments, Wode Maya criticised the remarks and explained that the outfit is a respected Ghanaian traditional garment. He stated that President Mahama’s choice of attire was a deliberate effort to promote Ghana’s local textile and fashion industry and showcase the country’s culture on an international stage.
