The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced plans for a nationwide strike starting March 9, 2026, citing government inaction on the implementation of a unique salary structure and improved conditions of service for civil and local government staff.

In a statement released on Thursday, February 19, 2026, CLOGSAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) highlighted that negotiations on the issue began in 2019 and led to the signing of two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). However, despite repeated reminders to the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, the government has not implemented the agreed measures, which were scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2025.

The NEC expressed concern that civil and local government staff are being “taken for granted” due to the government’s failure to honour its commitments. The association warned that industrial action will proceed if the agreements are not respected.

CLOGSAG’s statement concluded that the nationwide strike will commence on March 9, 2026, unless the government implements the promised salary adjustments and improved service conditions.
