The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Ghana has impounded 40 vehicles at Tema Harbour following the discovery of fake and improperly used Drive from Port (DP) stickers.

The operation, carried out based on intelligence, revealed that some vehicles bore fraudulent stickers, while others had genuine ones that did not correspond with official records. Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicles were imported by CFAO, with the discrepancies believed to have occurred during the clearing process. Officials say an agent engaged for the clearance may have used illegal methods.

The DVLA introduced DP stickers to replace aluminium DP plates to curb revenue losses, a move that initially increased monthly issuance significantly. However, a recent decline in sticker issuance raised suspicions, prompting investigations that led to the Tema Harbour operation.

The Authority is now working with National Security Ghana to probe the incident and tackle fraud within the vehicle importation and registration system. It stressed the importance of maintaining accurate vehicle data to enhance road safety, traceability, and effective transport regulation, while urging importers to comply with established procedures.
