The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, in connection with a deadly robbery attack on a Berekum Chelsea FC team bus that claimed the life of footballer Dominic Frimpong.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Ahmed, also known as “I Can Do,” and Bawa Gideon, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at Atimatim in Kumasi on April 15, 2026. Police say the arrest followed a confrontation in which the suspects attempted to flee and opened fire on officers, leaving one injured and currently receiving treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital under police guard.

Authorities recovered several items during the operation, including a pistol, ammunition, cartridges, pepper spray, mobile phones, and other materials believed to be linked to criminal activity.

According to police, the suspected gang leader has admitted involvement in multiple robberies, including the attack on the team bus, and has identified three accomplices who remain at large. The police have declared the suspects wanted and are appealing to the public for information to aid their arrest.

The incident, which occurred on April 12, shocked the football community, with tributes pouring in following the death of Frimpong. Police have assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and that those arrested will be prosecuted.
