Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says more than 12 million Ghanaians who are not registered on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will benefit from a new Free Primary Healthcare policy.

He noted that although NHIS coverage has improved to about 66%, a large segment of the population still has no insurance and often pays directly for basic healthcare, which can delay treatment and worsen health outcomes.

The initiative is intended to remove financial barriers at the primary care level by making basic health services freely available to everyone, including at clinics, health centres, and CHPS compounds that serve as the first point of care in communities.
