Veron Mosengo-Omba, the former General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has officially submitted his candidacy for the presidency of the Congolese Association Football Federation (FECOFA).

Mosengo-Omba filed his application on April 21, 2026, just before the close of nominations for the elective General Assembly set for May 20. The former official, who previously helped establish a Normalization Committee in Ghana in 2018, announced his bid via social media on Tuesday night.

In his declaration, Mosengo-Omba emphasized the need for structural reform and long-term development within Congolese football.

“There are moments when we deeply feel the need to return to what truly matters. Allow me to begin with an image,” he wrote. “That of a child, somewhere in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kisangani or Bukavu… a child playing football with a makeshift ball. A child who dreams of one day wearing the colours of his country.”

He continued by reflecting on the current state of the sport in the Democratic Republic of Congo: “That child is all of us. It is our story. It is the soul of Congolese football.”

Mosengo-Omba challenged the sustainability of recent successes, asking, “Our football has thrilled us. It has united us. It has made us proud. But today, we must have the courage to ask ourselves the right questions. Are our performances the result of a solid system… or simply flashes of talent?”

The candidate argued that success requires more than chance, stating, “A great football nation cannot depend on chance. It must be built on organisation, vision, and continuity.”

Confirming his bid, he said, “It is in this spirit that I have just submitted my candidacy in Kinshasa for the presidency of FECOFA. With humility. With responsibility. But above all, with a clear vision: Rebuild to structure. Structure to win.”

His proposed reform agenda focuses on several key areas. “Rebuild our institutions. Structure our competitions. Structure our training systems. Structure our governance,” he noted, aiming to create a sport that is “sustainable, credible, and successful.”

Calling for national unity, he added: “This project will not be done alone. It will be done with you. With the entire Congolese football family. One great country, 26 provinces, one football.”

Mosengo-Omba joins a competitive field that includes former DR Congo international Shabani Nonda, who is campaigning to improve the domestic and international game. Other validated candidates include Aziz Makukula, Max Mayaka, Lord Ndiwa Kanganal, and Kevin Issa.

The Electoral Commission will now review the applications before releasing the final list of approved candidates for the upcoming vote.
