Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has issued a firm challenge to his squad, declaring that only players willing to compete and perform will secure a spot for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During his inaugural press conference in Accra, the Portuguese tactician emphasized the high level of dedication necessary to represent Ghana. “My players must be ready to fight and win,” Queiroz stated, establishing a rigorous standard for the national team.

Appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on April 13, Queiroz is tasked with guiding Ghana through Group L, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama. Given the short preparation window, the head coach is prioritizing the development of a side capable of maintaining high competitiveness throughout the tournament.

His remarks underscore a requirement for discipline, intensity, and consistency. Squad selection is expected to be strictly merit-based, forcing every player to earn their position through active performance.

Queiroz, who previously led Portugal and Iran in World Cup campaigns, is expected to swiftly instill his tactical philosophy. The initial directive from the camp suggests a focus on organization, hard work, and a unified team approach. As preparations continue, the mandate for the players is clear: they must elevate their level of play to meet the new management’s expectations.
