Newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has identified the 2026 FIFA World Cup as his primary objective. During his introductory press conference in Accra, the Portuguese manager emphasized that his short-term tenure is driven entirely by the upcoming global tournament.
“In this moment 99.9% of my focus is on success at the World Cup,” Queiroz said, highlighting the urgency of his mandate.
The Ghana Football Association hired Queiroz earlier this month to lead the national team as they prepare to face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L. Beyond immediate match results, the coach aims to instill a new mentality within the squad, moving the team toward a higher standard of competitiveness.
“Ghana will not only be a country of football, but a country of champions,” he stated.
Queiroz’s comments signal an intent to establish the Black Stars as a genuine contender on the international stage. Advancing past the group stage is considered the minimum requirement for the veteran coach to secure a potential long-term contract.
