The Bank of Ghana has directed Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) to suspend the implementation of its proposed 0.75 per cent fee on direct wallet-to-bank transfers pending further stakeholder consultations.
The new charge, which was scheduled to take effect from June 1, 2026, has therefore been put on hold as discussions continue on the proposed adjustment within the mobile money ecosystem.
MTN Ghana had earlier informed customers through a text message that transfers from MoMo wallets to bank accounts would attract a 0.75 per cent fee per transaction, capped at GHS 5. The telecom company stated that the move was intended to support improvements in service delivery.
However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 26, the Bank of Ghana said the suspension forms part of efforts to ensure that any changes to mobile financial service charges are introduced fairly and with adequate stakeholder engagement.
According to the central bank, the decision reflects its commitment to protecting consumers and safeguarding their financial well-being before any new charges are approved and implemented.
