Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that a high-level committee of experts is preparing an African Union Strategy and Implementation Document to guide President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure as Chairperson of the African Union.
Mr Ablakwa, who chairs the committee, said the document is being developed ahead of President Mahama’s assumption of the AU Chairmanship in January next year.
The committee includes former UN Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, former AU Commission Deputy Chairperson Ambassador Kwasi Quartey, and other diplomats, academics and professionals.
Mr Ablakwa said President Mahama is committed to making his tenure impactful and transformative, with a focus on addressing the aspirations and expectations of people across Africa.
He commended the committee members for their expertise and dedication and called on the public and other stakeholders to submit suggestions on issues they believe should be prioritised during the presidency.
He said the contributions would help shape efforts towards a more peaceful, prosperous, integrated and influential Africa under President Mahama’s leadership.
