Counsel for Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, has raised concerns over the politician’s health and detention conditions, alleging that his condition has worsened significantly while in custody.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah claimed Abronye DC has been detained since Wednesday, May 13, and described his situation as “dire.”

According to Oppong Nkrumah, lawyers representing the outspoken NPP figure have repeatedly been denied access to him while he remains in the custody of the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).

He further alleged that Abronye DC’s wife, who was briefly allowed to visit him over the weekend, reported that his health had deteriorated considerably, especially after recently seeking medical treatment outside the country.

The former Information Minister also criticised authorities over what he described as delays in the legal process, claiming it took seven days for the defence team to receive a court order denying bail.

Abronye DC was rearrested on May 13, 2026, weeks after he had earlier been granted bail in connection with allegations of misinformation and offensive public remarks.
