A Ghanaian national, Frederick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng and popularly called Abu Trica, appears before the Gbese District Court in Accra under heavy security in connection with an alleged $8 million romance scam targeting elderly Americans.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the scale of the alleged fraud and the involvement of United States federal authorities, as extradition proceedings are expected to follow.
Kumi, 34, is arrested on December 11, 2025, in a joint operation involving Ghanaian law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
