The Accra High Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties to the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC.
The ruling was delivered on Thursday, May 21, 2026, after the court heard arguments in the case involving allegations of spreading false news.
Abronye DC had earlier been remanded into BNI custody by Circuit Court 9 in Accra, prompting his legal team to file a motion challenging the remand order on grounds that his continued detention was unjustified.
His arrest and detention attracted widespread public and political attention, particularly after he was rearrested following an earlier grant of bail during ongoing investigations.
Prior to the High Court’s decision, the NPP had criticised aspects of the handling of the bail process, describing the transfer of the case from Criminal Court Two to General Jurisdiction Two as “mind-boggling”.
The party further alleged that the move was intended to frustrate the bail process and raised concerns over what it described as increasing political intimidation of opposition figures.
