Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of harassment following the re-arrest of former National Food and Buffer Stock Company CEO, Abdul-Wahab Hanan Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni.
In a statement, the New Patriotic Party lawmaker described the move as politically motivated and an abuse of due process, noting that the couple had previously been granted bail before charges against them were withdrawn in court.
The case, which involved alleged financial impropriety at the Buffer Stock Company, collapsed after the court upheld objections from the defence led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame—over procedural issues, including attempts by prosecutors to introduce new evidence without approval.
Despite the discontinuation of the case, EOCO re-arrested the couple on May 5 and reportedly held them without bail. Afenyo-Markin also claimed their lawyers were denied access for several hours.
He further linked the development to pressure on the government’s anti-corruption drive, popularly known as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), and warned EOCO Director Raymond Archer against actions that could undermine the agency’s credibility. He has called for the immediate release of the detainees.
