Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Ghana Black Stars, known as Baby Jet, has assumed a pivotal role in crafting the Youth and Sports segment of the 2024 manifesto for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The announcement came through a press release from Bawumia’s campaign team, revealing Gyan’s inclusion in the Youth and Sports sub-committee, alongside 24 other prominent members. This committee’s primary responsibility is to conduct a comprehensive review of the NPP’s manifestos from 2016 and 2020. Their mission extends to engaging various stakeholders to formulate a pragmatic and forward-thinking manifesto for the upcoming 2024 polls.
The statement emphasized the Manifesto Committee’s duty to efficiently and professionally discharge their mandate, aiming to produce a manifesto that withstands the test of time. This manifesto is intended to address the legitimate concerns and socio-economic challenges faced by the people of Ghana.
Heading the Manifesto Committee is the former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, with Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, serving as Vice-Chairman, and Evron Hughes as the committee’s Secretary. The committee also features coordinators for various sectors, ensuring a well-rounded approach to the manifesto creation.
Among the notable figures assigned specific portfolios are Dr. Assibey Yeboah for Economy, Tony Oteng Gyasi for Trade and Industry, and Asamoah Gyan overseeing Youth and Sports. These individuals, along with others, collectively form the Manifesto Sub-committees Chairs, each focusing on a critical aspect of Ghana’s development.
