Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is expected to appear before a court in the Netherlands within the next 48 hours following his arrest at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport over alleged money laundering and romance scam offences.
The MP was arrested on Sunday, May 8, with reports indicating he is expected to challenge the legality of his arrest and detention during the court proceedings.
Parliament officially confirmed the arrest through a statement issued by Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, noting that Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague has been engaged to gather further details on the matter.
The statement added that the Speaker of Parliament and parliamentary leadership are closely monitoring developments surrounding the detention of the Independent MP.
Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has assured the public that the MP remains safe and stable while in custody.
