Asante Kotoko’s management has revealed that former head coach Karim Zito stepped down from his position due to frustration with the team’s on-field displays.
The club’s Communication Director, Samuel Sarfo Duku, disclosed this information during an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, stating that the decision to part ways was entirely Zito’s.
“We had no plans to sack Zito. Our intention was for him to continue until the end of the season so we could properly assess his work. However, he was disappointed with the players’ performance and decided to resign,” Duku said.
Regarding the club’s succession plan, Duku indicated that the assistant coach will assume interim responsibility while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
“In our view, we feel the assistant should lead us for now as we find the best replacement for Zito. We have not given them any time limit, but whenever we feel it is enough and a permanent coach should take over, they will make way,” Duku added.
The Porcupine Warriors are now in a period of transition as they continue their Ghana Premier League campaign under interim leadership.
