The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has directed the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, to refer all chieftaincy and land-related disputes to the Manhyia Palace for amicable settlement.

According to the Asantehene, such matters fall under his traditional authority and are not within the jurisdiction of the police. “If such issues come to your attention, do not hesitate to refer them to me for the necessary action,” he said.

Otumfuo made the remarks when the outgoing Commander, COP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, who has been promoted and reassigned to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB), paid a farewell call on him and introduced his successor at the Manhyia Palace.

Welcoming DCOP Akoto, Otumfuo urged him to maintain good relations with his officers and build upon his predecessor’s achievements, especially in the fight against crime. He also cautioned against the use of land guards, warning that any chief who engages them will face sanctions.

The Asantehene further advised the police to act decisively against criminal elements to ensure peace and security in the Ashanti Region, and not to allow anyone to use his name to interfere with their duties.

DCOP Akoto expressed gratitude for the Asantehene’s counsel and sought his blessings as he takes over command after 34 years of service in the Ghana Police Service
