The Ashaiman District Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly taking delivery of 18 compressed slabs of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in sacks of cassava.

The suspect, identified as Francis Alidu, is expected to be charged with unlawful possession or control of narcotic drugs, contrary to Section 37(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019).

A police statement said the arrest followed intelligence from the Ho Police on October 31, 2025, about 2110 hours, indicating that a bus driver had been apprehended with suspected Indian hemp and had a receiver in Ashaiman.

Police traced the said receiver and arrested Alidu at the forecourt of a KFC restaurant in Ashaiman.

While being questioned, Alidu reportedly received a call from another driver informing him that a sack of cassava had been dropped off for him at the location.

Police officers moved to the scene, retrieved the sack, and took it to the station, where a search conducted in the presence of the suspect uncovered 18 compressed slabs of the suspected substance hidden among the cassava.

The statement said the suspect would be handed over to the Ho Regional Police Command for further investigation.
