Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has criticised the Akufo-Addo administration over what he described as unprecedented borrowing with little to show in terms of national development, warning that persons who misused public funds will be compelled to refund the money.

Speaking at Asunafo North in the Ahafo Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the previous government contracted the highest level of debt in Ghana’s history but failed to translate the funds into meaningful infrastructure and social development.

He said the Mahama-led administration is committed to accountability and will trace how borrowed funds were used, stressing that individuals found culpable will be held responsible.

Mr Asiedu Nketia also highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to decentralise recruitment into the security services, describing the move as a step towards fairness and transparency.

He added that while the current government is working to settle outstanding debts, this should not absolve the previous administration of responsibility, insisting that mismanaged public funds must be recovered to support national development.
