Attram De Visser rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half to secure a 3-3 draw against newly promoted Premier League side Debibi United as the fifth edition of the X1 Division One League Super Cup commenced at the Len Clay Stadium on Monday.
Debibi United established an early lead through Ibrahim Alhassan before Attram De Visser Junior equalized for the Accra-based side. Debibi United subsequently regained control of the Group A fixture, with Kwadwo Antwi restoring their advantage and Clement Nketiah extending the lead to 3-1.
Attram De Visser mounted a comeback later in the match, with Abdul Majid Maswud reducing the margin before Thomas Okyere scored the equalizing goal to earn his team a point.
Before the match kicked off, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, delivered the ceremonial kick-off to officially launch the tournament.
Abdul Majid Maswud, who scored Attram De Visser’s second goal, was named Man of the Match following his performance.
“We were giving up, but our coach backed us up with his words and motivated us to come back and equalise when we were down,” Maswud said after the game.
“The group is very tight and the teams are well experienced and good. So, we have to come up with a good game and good tactics so that we can overcome them and, at the end, become the winners.”
Reflecting on the match, Debibi United assistant coach Francis Makiya attributed the concession of the lead to a loss of focus in the latter stages of the game.
“We led 3-1, but I think in the last hour, there was a lack of concentration from my boys and Attram were able to come back,” Makiya said.
“I think they’re doing well, but there is more room for improvement.”
Attram De Visser coach Godwin Attram noted that the competition serves as a valuable platform to evaluate his team’s tactical structure prior to the start of the upcoming season.
“It’s a very exciting pre-season tournament and good for the players,” Attram said.
“We just want to see team organisation, structures, advantages and disadvantages of how the team attack and defend.”
The tournament is sponsored by Hoshii International Limited, manufacturers of X1 Energy Drink and Hoshii Instant Rice, with representative Ivy Udanoh present at the opening day. Udanoh indicated that the corporate sponsorship seeks to enhance brand visibility while engaging with local football followers.
“Ultimately, the partnership will help us build brand awareness and also get a stronger connection with the football community,” Udanoh said.
“So far, it’s been positive and quite exciting to see people passionate about football coming together to support their team and the brand as a whole.”
The six-goal draw leaves both teams with one point each in Group A, ahead of the day’s second scheduled fixture between Real Tamale United and Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs.
