The ceremony will be administered by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, formally ushering the new legislator into Ghana’s lawmaking chamber.
Mr Jamal won the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, 2026, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The by-election was conducted to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following the death of the constituency’s former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.
According to official results released by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Baba Jamal secured 10,884 votes to defeat his main opponent, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 4,009 votes.
Other candidates included independent contender Mohammed Umar Sanda, who received 1,885 votes, Ibrahim Idrissu with 43 votes, and Kanor David with 104 votes. A total of 16,928 valid votes were cast, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the overall votes cast to 17,048.
Following the declaration of the results, Mr Jamal expressed gratitude to constituents for their support. In a Facebook post on March 9, he said he was humbled by the opportunity to serve and looked forward to working with residents to advance development in the constituency.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Parliament House and is expected to be attended by political leaders, supporters, and members of the public.
