The government has announced plans to extend the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) from five days to eight days in a bid to ease pressure on candidates.
Speaking at Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said the current Monday-to-Friday schedule places significant stress on students.
He explained that under the proposed reform, the BECE would begin on a Wednesday and end the following Wednesday, allowing candidates more preparation time between papers and a weekend break during the examination period.
According to the Minister, the revised timetable is intended to give learners adequate time to prepare for each subject. The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to oversee the implementation of the new examination calendar.
