Cape Verde head coach Bubista has resigned from his position to take over at Moroccan side RS Berkane on a two-year contract.
The 56-year-old manager leaves the national team following a historic World Cup campaign, where he led the debutants to the last 32 before a 3-2 extra-time defeat to eventual runners-up Argentina. Bubista, who assumed leadership of the Blue Sharks in January 2020, also guided the team to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after securing World Cup qualification ahead of Cameroon.
At RS Berkane, Bubista replaces Moin Chaabani, who left the club to become the new head coach of Tunisia. The Moroccan top-flight side finished second in the league last season, following their maiden domestic league title in the 2024-25 season. Despite not being historically considered one of Morocco’s traditional powerhouses, the north-eastern club has built recent success, including three CAF Confederation Cup titles. The club previously drew controversy in 2024 for wearing jerseys depicting a map of Morocco that included the disputed territory of Western Sahara.
In a statement following his departure, Cape Verde’s football federation expressed gratitude to Bubista for his “dedication, professionalism, and contribution to the development of the national team’s sporting project” and wished him “much success” in his future endeavors.
