The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially endorsed Gianni Infantino for a third term as FIFA President.
The decision was confirmed by CAF’s 54 member associations during a meeting held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Vancouver. While Infantino has not yet formally declared his candidacy for another term, this support from CAF, alongside a similar endorsement from South America’s CONMEBOL, serves as a strong indication of his intent to seek re-election.
Although Infantino has led world football’s governing body since 2016, a 2022 rule change paves the way for him to run again. A FIFA governance, audit, and compliance committee previously ruled that his initial 39-month stint from 2016 to 2019 was a partial term and does not count toward the 12-year limit mandated by FIFA statutes.
The presidential election is set to take place in 2027 during the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco.
