The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to announce a final decision regarding the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (c) within the next 48 hours, according to CAF Head of TV and Communications, Luxolo September.
The announcement comes amid intense speculation that Morocco may relinquish its hosting rights. If Morocco withdraws, it would mark a significant shift for the tournament, which the country was slated to host for a third consecutive time.
The uncertainty arrives just 13 days before the competition is scheduled to begin. September noted that the situation is being handled with “urgent and high-level attention” as the governing body moves to clarify hosting arrangements and the tournament’s overall future.

The 2026 edition is set to be a landmark event, featuring an expanded format of 16 countries for the first time. Additionally, the tournament serves as a primary qualifying route for the global stage, with all four semi-finalists earning automatic spots in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
