The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, overturning her conviction and 10-year prison sentence. In a judgment delivered on Thursday, the appellate court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt, setting aside the High Court’s earlier convictions.
Ms Tamakloe-Attionu had appealed the 2024 High Court ruling, arguing that the charges against her were defective and that the prosecution had not established the alleged offences. The High Court had convicted her in absentia on charges including causing financial loss to the state and stealing, after she failed to return to Ghana from the United States, where she had travelled in 2021 with court approval for medical treatment.
Following her extradition from the United States on June 9, 2026, she began serving her sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on June 24, 2026. The Court of Appeal’s decision has now nullified the conviction, bringing the case to a close in her favour.
