An Accra High Court has ordered that the ongoing criminal trial of Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, be conducted virtually after he submitted a medical excuse.

The court’s decision followed advice from his doctor, who recommended that he avoid “maximal physical exertion,” prompting the shift from in-person proceedings to electronic hearings.

Mr Mensah, the former CEO of the defunct gold dealership firm Menzgold, is facing multiple charges, including defrauding by false pretence, operating without a licence, and money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently on bail.

The case is part of a broader prosecution stemming from the collapse of Menzgold, which allegedly left thousands of customers defrauded. The High Court has previously instructed him to open his defence as the trial continues.
