An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 55 foreign nationals into prison custody after their arrest at Kuntunse near Amasaman for allegedly entering Ghana through unapproved routes and without the necessary permits.

The accused persons, who formed part of a group of more than 100 migrants arrested on October 7, 2025, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah, leading the prosecution, prayed the court to remand the accused to allow the Police and Immigration authorities to continue investigations.

ASP Haligah told the court that the Police, acting on intelligence, located the group in a house at Kuntunse-Satellite, a suburb of Accra. He said the foreign nationals refused to provide their true identities during initial interrogation and were subsequently transferred to the CID Headquarters.

Investigations, he said, revealed that the accused persons, all from neighbouring francophone countries, entered Ghana through unapproved border points between February and September 2025.

The prosecution added that they failed to report to the nearest Immigration office to present their travel documents and complete mandatory registration processes. Further checks confirmed that none of the accused had valid documentation permitting residence or employment in Ghana.
