Former Black Stars captain Andre “Dede” Ayew has left the door open to a future role in Ghana football administration amid reports linking him with a potential bid for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2027.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi in Accra on Sunday, the 36-year-old acknowledged growing calls for him to lead the country’s football governing body but stopped short of confirming any intention to contest the election.
Ayew said the wishes of football fans should remain central to any discussion about the future of the sport, stressing that his immediate priority is to see Ghanaian football improve.
“I’ve heard the rumours about people saying I should lead Ghana football, but that’s not what is important; I just want our football to grow,” Ayew said.
“Not tomorrow, but now,” he added.
The GFA’s next presidential and executive council elections are scheduled for 2027. Kurt Okraku has led the association since 2019.
Ayew, meanwhile, remains a free agent after leaving Dutch club NAC Breda in May. The veteran forward has continued training in Ghana while negotiations with three clubs reportedly remain ongoing.
A long-serving Black Stars captain, Ayew has represented Ghana at several major international tournaments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
