A demolition exercise has commenced in Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region to pave the way for the dualisation of the Dzodze stretch under Lot 8 of the government’s “Big Push” road initiative.

The exercise, which began on February 26, is targeting structures situated within the designated right-of-way for the road expansion. Affected properties include churches, portions of fuel stations, and sections of public facilities such as the local police station.

Ahead of the official demolitions, several property owners voluntarily dismantled parts of their buildings after receiving compensation from the government. Their actions followed prior consultations and engagements with authorities regarding the project’s scope and its impact on residents.

In January, a town hall meeting and sensitisation programme was organised for residents and affected persons. The session was led by Ketu North Member of Parliament Edem Agbana in collaboration with the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, headed by Municipal Chief Executive Rev. Martin Amenaki. Officials from the Regional Highways Authority, the Volta Regional Minister, and the project contractors were also present.

At the meeting, authorities assured affected persons of fair compensation before the commencement of demolition works. Some beneficiaries confirmed receiving payment, which influenced their decision to undertake self-demolition.

The dualisation project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and improve the movement of people and goods along the corridor. Residents have expressed optimism that the expanded road will boost economic activity in Dzodze and surrounding communities while strengthening connectivity within the municipality.
