Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aspiring National Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed concern about what he describes as a growing climate of political targeting, saying his outspoken nature could expose him to problems.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Aboagye said he is worried about the implications of what he believes is the selective application of justice, warning that actions taken against political opponents today could set precedents that future governments may also rely on.
He noted that no administration remains in power indefinitely, arguing that Ghana’s political history has consistently demonstrated that governments eventually change.
Aboagye clarified that his concerns are not rooted in calls for political retaliation if the NPP returns to office, but in the need to safeguard democratic institutions and prevent practices that could undermine the country’s democracy.
He disclosed that he has written to the Chief Justice to express his concerns, adding that while he does not believe his life is under threat, he fears his willingness to speak openly on national and political issues could land him in trouble.
According to him, many Ghanaians share similar concerns, stressing that the country’s democratic credentials depend on citizens being able to express their views freely without fear of intimidation or political persecution.
