Residents of Jomoro and Ellembelle in the Western Region will soon no longer need to travel to Axim or Takoradi to access Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) services, as a new temporary office nears completion at Tikobo No. 1.

The Member of Parliament for Jomoro and Deputy Transport Minister, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, recently inspected the facility, which is about 85 percent complete and scheduled for commissioning by the end of March 2026.

Speaking during the inspection, Madam Affo-Toffey said the project would significantly reduce the burden on residents who currently undertake long journeys to register vehicles, renew licenses, or access other DVLA services.

“If someone wants to register their car or apply for a new license, they currently have to travel all the way to Axim or Takoradi,” she noted, adding that the new office would eliminate that challenge once operational.

Beyond improving access to administrative services, the Deputy Minister said the presence of a DVLA office is expected to stimulate local economic activity and create employment opportunities for young people in the area.

She explained that although land has already been secured for a permanent, modern DVLA facility in the constituency, the temporary office was initiated to provide immediate relief while plans for the permanent structure are finalised.

Madam Affo-Toffey said the initiative aligns with the Transport Ministry’s broader goal of decentralising essential public services and bringing them closer to citizens, reaffirming the government’s commitment to development in the Jomoro constituency.
