The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), Kofi Asare, has revealed that some Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates hide money in their examination scripts in an attempt to influence examiners during the marking process.
He stressed that such attempts would only succeed if an examiner compromises professional ethics, adding that examiners with integrity should report the incidents instead of accepting the money.
Asare also called for stronger examination monitoring and surveillance systems to curb malpractice, urging greater investment in oversight mechanisms. His comments follow the cancellation of the 2026 BECE results of 601 candidates, while 167 results have been withheld and 2,722 others remain under investigation over suspected examination irregularities.
