Elected members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have given Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante a one-week ultimatum to resign or face removal by President John Dramani Mahama, citing a loss of confidence in her leadership. The demand comes after an emergency meeting to consider a vote of no confidence failed to take place due to the absence of Electoral Commission officials and the unexpected closure of the Assembly auditorium.
The Assembly Members alleged that the venue was locked on the instructions of the MCE’s personal aide, preventing the meeting from proceeding. Addressing the media, the Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area, George Kuntu Blankson, said all 28 elected Assembly Members had resolved to demand the MCE’s resignation, warning that they would petition the President to remove her from office if she failed to step down within the stipulated one-week period.
