The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new electricity and water tariffs that will take effect on January 1, 2026, following the completion of its multi-year review for the 2026–2030 period.
Under this new framework, electricity tariffs will increase by 9.86% for all consumer categories, while water tariffs will rise by 15.92% over the five-year control period.
The Commission stated that these adjustments are necessary to meet the investment needs of utility providers, maintain industry competitiveness, and protect consumer interests.
Furthermore, the review allows for quarterly tariff adjustments to account for changes in external factors beyond the control of service providers, such as exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, fuel prices, and the mix of power generation sources.
Additionally, PURC announced the introduction of mini-grid tariffs to enhance electricity supply to islands and hard-to-reach communities. The costs associated with this initiative have been included in the revenue requirements of the Volta River Authority.
The Commission emphasised that the new tariffs result from extensive public consultations, stakeholder engagements, and a thorough assessment of the proposals submitted by utility companies.
PURC also assured consumers that it would implement stricter monitoring of service providers to promote efficiency, ensure value for money, and enforce compliance with regulatory standards.
