The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to demand a thorough and impartial investigation into an alleged assault on staff of the Ministry by personnel of the Ghana Police Service.
In a statement shared via a social media post by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, Dr Jinapor said the incident occurred while the staff were commuting to work in an official ministry bus. He clarified that the alleged assault was carried out by police officers and not National Security operatives, contrary to earlier reports.

The Minister condemned any attempt to justify the alleged assault, including claims that it resulted from insults directed at officers, describing such explanations as unacceptable and indefensible. He stressed that no citizen should be subjected to violence or abuse of power by law enforcement officers.
Dr Jinapor urged the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly to ensure accountability and justice for the victims, emphasising that decisive action is necessary to restore public confidence in the professionalism and discipline of the Service.
