The Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has announced a GHC150,000 relief package for each of the six families affected by the recent stampede at El-Wak Sports Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces 2025/2026 recruitment exercise. The package includes GHC50,000 for funeral expenses and GHC100,000 as compensation, with additional support, including psychosocial assistance, being coordinated with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
The tragic incident, which occurred shortly before the recruitment exercise began, left six dead and several others injured, many of whom are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. Deputy Minister Genfi assured that senior officials would stand with the families and that siblings of the deceased would receive prioritized opportunities in the ongoing recruitment. President John Dramani Mahama also expressed condolences and pledged government support.
