A deadly collision involving a fuel tanker and a tipper truck on the Accra–Tema Motorway sparked a significant fire outbreak, which has since been fully extinguished, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.

In an official update, the Service stated that firefighters responded promptly to the scene and were able to bring the intense blaze under control.

“The fire involving a crashed fuel tanker and tipper truck on the Accra–Tema Motorway has been completely extinguished,” the GNFS said.

While authorities have yet to disclose the number of casualties, the Service described the incident as a fatal crash accompanied by a fire outbreak.

Emergency teams remain at the scene conducting recovery efforts and post-fire assessments.

“Recovery operations remain ongoing at the scene as emergency responders continue with post-fire activities and investigations,” the statement added.

The cause of the collision has not yet been determined, and investigations are underway to establish the circumstances leading to the crash.

The incident caused major concern for motorists and commuters on the busy motorway, as emergency services worked swiftly to contain the fire, prevent it from spreading, and secure the affected area.

The GNFS indicated that further updates, including details on casualties and preliminary findings, will be provided as more information becomes available.
