Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has congratulated Benin’s newly inaugurated President, Romuald Wadagni, following his official swearing-in ceremony held in Cotonou.

President Wadagni, a former Finance Minister of Benin, was elected in the April 12 presidential election and officially assumed office after taking the oath before the President of the Constitutional Court, Dorothe Sossa. He pledged to serve and defend the Republic of Benin throughout his seven-year constitutional term.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Congress Palace in Benin’s economic capital, attracted more than 6,000 guests, including former Presidents Nicephore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, heads of state institutions, members of constitutional bodies, and diplomats.

Dr Forson attended the ceremony on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and joined other dignitaries in celebrating the peaceful transition of leadership.

President Wadagni succeeds former President Patrice Talon and begins his first term after serving for a decade as Benin’s Finance Minister, where he earned recognition for overseeing key economic reforms and managing the country’s economy.
