Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has described the past year as one of the most difficult periods of his political life, saying a prolonged legal battle over his parliamentary seat denied him the peace to function effectively as a legislator.

Mr. Nyindam said the uncertainty and emotional strain caused by the court case made it impossible for him to work freely as an MP. His comments followed a Supreme Court ruling that overturned an earlier High Court decision which had annulled his election.

In a 4–1 majority decision, the Supreme Court held that the High Court in Tamale committed a jurisdictional error, restoring Mr. Nyindam’s mandate as the duly elected MP for Kpandai.

He said the initial High Court ruling came as a shock and exposed him, for the first time, to the judicial process, an experience he described as deeply distressing. He noted that the ordeal took a personal toll and is something he would not wish on any colleague in Parliament.

Maintaining that his election was free and fair, the MP expressed relief at the Supreme Court’s decision, describing it as divine justice. He also reflected on his political journey, recalling how he won the Kpandai seat in 2013 against the odds, ending two decades of NDC dominance in the constituency.
